WELCOME

I'm Andi, a wetland scientist in the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia. Because wetland ecosystems exist from headwater streams, through estuaries, and to oceans, I embrace a central theme in my wor— water.

Why wetlands?

Because of their low lying position in the landscape, wetlands are a collecting ground for pollution. Luckily, wetlands are capable of holding onto and removing pollution. Wetlands even store carbon to mitigate against climate change! But, 50% of global wetland area has been lost to human development to make space for agriculture and urban centers. I am interested in understanding, enhancing, and restoring the functional role of wetlands related to water quality and quantity at the community level. Wetlands are the unspoken heroes to clean and plentiful water resources worldwide!
